President- Friends of Uganda Children Inc.
Jim is the president of Friends of Ugandan Children Inc. A graduate of Harvard and Cambridge, he is now a retired professor of New Testament studies and of counseling. As a minister and a professional counselor, Jim has served on the boards of professional and charitable organizations.
Together with his wife, Phyllis, a school administrator, he has been involved in educating children since the 1970s. For over thirty years, they have been involved in planting schools in Tennessee and Mississippi. Since 2006, Jim has joined Phyllis in helping Ugandan children. Since then, they helped Ugandan widows by selling over $400,000 of their crafts from a booth at shows and festivals. Additionally, Jim has presented their projects at churches and civic organizations.
After Jim retired in 2022, they stopped selling at festivals and focused their efforts on raising funds to provide resources and scholarships for needy Ugandan children. In 2024, Friends of Ugandan Children Inc was formed as a charitable corporation (501 (c)(3)) to allow donations from children’s sponsors to be tax-deductible.
