FOUC seeks to help needy Ugandan children launch successfully into life. Doing so often includes more than school tuition! Although education is a primary vehicle for launching the children, life is more complex than education! Children need food and a place to stay and they can suddenly face serious medical issues for which they have no resources. FOUC takes a comprehensive approach to launching the children.
Here are some examples:
Ms. Jessica suffers Elephantiasis: she is a single mother of two children (Harriet and Henry). She has elephantiasis and can do little to provide for her family. To help the children launch, the family needs scholarships for school, money for food and medical help .
FOUC sponsors have helped this family in several ways.
- They Provided a scholarship to allow, Harriet to complete school and to get trained to be a professional hairdresser.
- Are providing a scholarship to allow SON to attend school.
- Got SON a bike to make it easier for him to go DISTANCE to get water for the family.
- Provided money to help with food for the family.
- Provided money for Jessica to have surgery to reduce the elephantiasis so she could begin to provide for her family. (Ugandan medical care is inexpensive as compared to American medical care, but it is still out of the reach of families such as this.)
