• Education is crucial for launching children into adult life,
    • Yet children also have basic needs such as food and housing and they can suddenly face serious medical issues for which they have no resources.
  • FOUC takes a comprehensive approach to launching the children.
  • Here are some of the ways FOUC provides basic needs

Grace

G is a compassionate social worker who has taken in 14 children in dire need: children abandoned, orphaned by HIV, or products of rape.

  • FOUC donors are helping prepare these orphans for adult life by providing resources
    • For food and rent
    • For school tuition
    • For vocational training

Vivien’s family lives in a rural village. She is one of six children with an alcoholic father.

FOUC donors are providing support for the children’s education. They have helped Vivien:

  • Complete her secondary education and begin post-secondary studies in agriculture education
  • Obtain an inhaler for her asthma
  • Undergo surgery to remove her appendix

Her brother S has taken on many responsibilities, and FOUC donors have assisted him in completing six years of IT training.

Teopista

Teopista was widowed with three small children (two girls and a boy)

To help her and her children,

  • FOUC began to sell the paper beads she made at festivals in the southeastern USA.
  • FOUC donors
    • Helped her children go to school.
    • Helped Teopista get training as a seamstress

Teopista is a hard worker!

  • She built her own house
  • Coordinated procuring and shipping the craft products made by other Ugandan craftswomen that FOUC sold at festivals

Her children have grown up and have taken advantage of their opportunity

Her son has completed medical school. He runs the Life Line Clinic serving a poor area.

Two daughters have university degrees in banking and city planning
